Verbena lilacina "De la Mina" is an excellent choice for landscapes in areas like Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, Big Sur, Carmel Valley, and Monterey, where deer roam in herds and can quickly mow down a landscape overnight. Known as De la Mina Lilac Verbena, this plant is one of the few native plants that deer don’t like to eat.
While deer may not favor this plant, butterflies certainly do. Verbena lilacina "De la Mina" produces masses of fragrant purple flowers almost year-round, attracting butterflies and adding vibrant color to your garden. It’s one of our favorite California native plants due to its compact form and long-lasting blooms.
Beyond being deer-resistant, compact in form, and a prolific bloomer, Verbena lilacina "De la Mina" is also highly drought-tolerant once established, making it a great choice for the California landscape.
When designing landscapes for clients in Pebble Beach, Carmel Valley, Big Sur, Pacific Grove, and Monterey—areas known for their abundance of deer—we often incorporate Verbena lilacina "De la Mina" to add a pop of color. Its low, compact form and low-water requirements make it an ideal plant for the region.
